As part of the nationwide “Angdaan – Jeevan Sanjeevani Abhiyaan”, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, observed the 15th Indian Organ Donation Day (IODD) on 2nd August 2025 at Bhim Hall, Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. The campaign, which began on July 1st to mark Organ Donation Month, aimed to raise awareness on the importance of organ donation and transplantation across the country.

The event commemorated the landmark of India’s first successful heart transplant on 3rd August 1994, following the enactment of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA), and celebrated the selfless contributions of organ donor families and those working tirelessly in the field.

Hon’ble Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Shri J. P. Nadda, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and honored several key contributors, including the athletes of the Indian Transplant Team heading to the World Transplant Games 2025 in Dresden, Germany

The Minister felicitated 20 transplant athletes - winners of the ROTTO-PGI Transplant Games 2025—and extended his best wishes to them for the upcoming international event. ORGAN India, Parashar Foundation, one of the key organizers of the ROTTO Games and supporters of the Indian team, was also recognized for its dedicated work on the transplant games and supporting transplant athletes.
