Abhinav’s journey from patient to athlete is nothing short of inspiring. What started with blurry vision led to a shocking diagnosis — 90% kidney damage due to undetected high blood pressure. After months on dialysis, he received a life-saving kidney transplant from his sister in 2019.
Post-recovery, Abhinav returned to an active life, playing cricket and football. In 2021, he married Asha, who herself had donated a kidney to her brother - a beautiful connection of strength and giving.
A passionate athlete, Abhinav represented India at the World Transplant Games 2023, winning a bronze medal in Badminton Doubles (30–49 age category). He also won Golds at Badminton & Javelin, Silver in Shotput and a Bronze in 100m at the ROTTO-PGI Games 2025. In the 2025 Games in Dresden, apart from competing in Badminton and Athletics, Abhinav was also the Captain of the Football Team.

Aditya Pathak from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, is a true fighter and cricket lover. After a challenging first kidney transplant in 2013, he bounced back with a successful second transplant in 2018 at Apollo Hospital, Delhi. Now fully recovered.
Beyond his medical journey, Aditya’s passion for cricket shines bright. A former under-16 state player, he now mentors' young cricketers as a coach at KDMA Cricket Academy in Kanpur—passing on his love for the game and the spirit of resilience. Aditya represented India in Football, Ten Pin Bowling and Petanque at the 2025 World Transplant Games.

Ankit Kumar, 28, from Rajasthan, turned a life-threatening kidney failure diagnosis into a story of resilience and triumph. After falling seriously ill in late 2022, he received a life-saving kidney transplant from his mother in March 2023.
During recovery, Ankit discovered the world of transplant sports. Just months later, he won bronze in the 200m at the Kochi Transplant Games and gold in the 100m at the Satra National Games. By March 2025, he claimed gold in javelin and long jump, and silver in the 100m and 200m at the ROTTO-PGI Transplant Games.
Now, Ankit represented India at the World Transplant Games 2025 in petanque, ball throw, javelin, long jump, 100m, and as captain of the Indian volleyball team.

Ajish, a 43-year-old IT professional, residing in Navi Mumbai was diagnosed with IgA Kidney failure in the year 2018. Post that he had been living one 1-liter water a day and least possible intake of protein without any salt. Eventually his kidneys gave up and had to undergo transplant in April 2022, his donor being his elder sister.
Ajish has been a sports enthusiast always and was involved in various sports since childhood. WTG gives him a chance to create awareness on organ donation life after transplant.

Anant Anekar, Assistant General Manager in the tech department at ICICI Bank, is not only a dedicated professional and proud father but also a transplant athlete. In 2021, he selflessly donated a kidney to his son, Ishaan, who was battling a rare kidney disease since 2015. The transplant, performed on 11th November 2021, marked a turning point in both their lives.
Post-transplant, Anant took up running and won a silver medal in the 100m race at the 2023 National Transplant Games in Mumbai. Ananth competed in World Transplant Games 2025 in the 100m, 5km run, dart, and ball throw events.

Amit Prasada worked in the IT & BPM space for 24 years in various geographies across the globe. Following an illness in 2020, Amit began his transplant in September 2020. He received a new liver from a close friend, following which his life has been better and healthier.
He began playing golf in March 2021 and represented India at the World Transplant Games 2023 in Perth, Australia, bringing an end to his semi-retirement and to create awareness about organ donation. He came back to the Games in 2025, playing through illness and bringing home a medal.

Amit, a kidney transplant recipient from Jaipur, is a shining example of resilience and determination. Nine years after his transplant - donated selflessly by his sister-Amit has not only built a happy married life but also proven that both donors and recipients can thrive. His sister, now a mother post-donation, and Amit, now a medal-winning athlete, are living proof of the strength of the transplant community.
A former state-level athlete, Amit made India proud at the World Transplant Games 2023, winning two bronze medals - one in the 5000m racewalk and another in pétanque doubles (30–39 age category). He also won a Gold in Petanque Doubles at the ROTTO-PGI Transplant Games 2025.
Fueled by his past achievements, Amit pushed the envelope at the 2025 Games in Dresden, participating in and winning a silver medal in Archery.

Following his son, Varun’s transplant, Anand's commitment to organ donation has led him to participate in the World Transplant Games in the Donor Family category in 5 KM Race Walk event. His participation is a way of promoting organ donation and raising awareness about the importance of this life-saving act.
Anand hopes that this efforts will help to inspire other families to consider organ donation and to see the positive impact it can have on someone's life. He also wants to tell the world that family bond plays a crucial role in the recovery process post-transplant. The support, care, and encouragement of family members can help the patient through the difficult stages of recovery and contribute to their overall health and well-being.

Anil Srivatsa donated his kidney to his brother, Dr. Arjun Srivatsa, in 2014 and has since traveled across 44 countries by car with his wife Deepali, spreading awareness about organ donation. Both Anil and Arjun made history at the World Transplant Games 2019 by winning gold for India - Anil in Ball Throw (50+) and Arjun in Golf. Anil also set a world record in Ball Throw.
He continued his winning streak at WTG 2023 in Perth with two gold medals in Ball Throw and Racewalk (50+). Despite a severe injury at the triathlon event, Anil managed a hattrick, winning a third gold medal in ball throw at the World Transplant Games 2025. He was also Captain of the Golf Team.

Chandigarh-based Anil Singh, 38, is a lively and social personality who faced kidney failure at just 20. After only two dialysis sessions, he received a kidney from his mother in 2007. Due to post-transplant neglect, a second transplant became necessary in 2022—this time donated by his father.
With experience came maturity. Anil now follows a disciplined routine and has become an advocate for transplant awareness. Inspired by a fellow patient, he is training for the 5km run and badminton at the World Transplant Games 2025 (WTG25).
A government employee, Anil also pushed for recognition and rewards for transplant athletes in Chandigarh. His story is one of second chances, growth, and giving back.

Anirudh Nansi, a former India Water Polo team member and Mumbai cricketer from the 1980s, battled serious heart issues for over a decade. Diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in 2005 and surviving a stroke in 2009, his heart function dropped to below 15%. After years of medical challenges—including a pacemaker and thoracotomy—he received a life-saving heart transplant in December 2020, thanks to a deceased donor from Goa.
Now 60, Anirudh is back to living life to the fullest. He swims, plays cricket, squash, and golf, and even won at the State-Level Swimming Championship in 2022—just a year after his transplant.
With the heart of a fighter and an athlete’s mindset, Anirudh represented India at the World Transplant Games 2025.

Deepak Chawla was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2020, and after battling weakness, high blood pressure, and even COVID-19, he received a life-saving kidney transplant from his father in March 2022. Recovery wasn’t easy. He faced anxiety and depression but found new purpose after discovering the world of transplant sports.
Now healthy and determined, Deepak represented India at the World Transplant Games 2025 in a wide range of events, including the 5km road race, 100m, 200m, and 400m.

An avid sportsman from his very early days, Balveer had a promising career in Badminton. He played at University level and was set for bigger things when his sporting career took a hit due to illness. He received a kidney transplant in 2011 which effectively ended any chance to compete at a higher level. Balveer, however, did not let this stop him from pursuing his dream. Introduced to the World Transplant Games, his dream to play for India was renewed.
Despite the rigors of the transplant procedure and a modest government salary, Balveer has participated in and excelled at every Games since 2015. He has used his own savings and whatever help he could get to cover the costs of travel and registration. He has already won three medals for India in Badminton, a gold at the WTG Argentina in 2015, a gold at the WTG Spain in 2017 & a silver medal UK in 2019. He recently won the Gold Medal in Badminton at the ROTTO-PGI Transplant Games 2025.
Having missed out on a medal at the 2023 Games in Perth, Balveer came back strong in 2025, continuing his medal streak with a Bronze in Badminton.

Bhawani Singh received a life-saving kidney transplant 19 years ago at the age of 19. After a cautious first year, he resumed a full life - completing his studies, joining the Rajasthan government, and raising a family with two children.
He began with low-impact sports like darts and shooting, later taking up badminton and lawn bowls. In 2018, he won a silver medal in Lawn Bowls at the National Transplant Games in Mumbai.
At the World Transplant Games 2023, Bhawani made India proud, winning silver in Pétanque Singles and bronze in Lawn Bowls (30–39 age group). He also won Bronze in Petanque Doubles at the ROTTO-PGI Transplant Games 2025.

Digvijay has won 10 Gold medals at the National Transplant Games and made his mark internationally with a Silver medal in Squash at the World Transplant Games 2019 (Newcastle) and a Bronze in Squash Singles (30–39) at WTG 2023. He also won Gold in 200m & 100m and a bronze in Long Jump at the ROTTO-PGI Transplant Games 2025. He represented India once again at WTG 2025, continuing to inspire with his resilience and athletic excellence. He was also the Captain of the Squash & Tennis Teams.

Dr. Girivar Sharan Sharma, an orthopedic specialist at Government RDBP Jaipuria Hospital, Jaipur, underwent a kidney transplant on 7th April 2021 after facing kidney rejection.
Since then, he has embraced transplant sports, winning gold in shot put at the ROTTO-PGI Transplant Games in Chandigarh and competing at the Asian Petanque Transplant Games in Bangkok, where he reached the quarterfinals.
He represented India at the World Transplant Games 2025 in Dresden, Germany — proving that life after transplant can be active, meaningful, and full of new achievements.

Gurshed Dhillon, 33, from Punjab and a government employee, faced kidney failure in his late 20s, forcing him to pause his civil services preparation. With his mother as his donor, he underwent a successful kidney transplant on 17th December 2021.
After 1.5 years of recovery, Gurshed discovered transplant sports during checkups at PGI Chandigarh. Inspired, he began training to represent India at the World Transplant Games 2025 in badminton, 800m run, ball throw, and volleyball. For his efforts Gurshed returned home with two medals.

Harsh Vardhan Singh, a transplant athlete from India, was born with a single kidney. When it began to fail, his mother donated hers, giving him a second chance at life. A state-level tennis and handball player in school, he returned to sports post-transplant and went on to win Silver in Dart Triple Mixed (30–39) at the World Transplant Games 2023.

Hitesh Sharma was diagnosed with the rare autoimmune disease Systemic Lupus Disorder at just 14. By age 20, it progressed to Chronic Kidney Disease, and his father stepped in as his kidney donor, giving him a new lease on life. Despite the challenges, Hitesh stayed strong and committed to fitness and advocacy. He won Silver in Dart Triple Mixed (30–39) and Bronze in Petanque Doubles (30–39) at the World Transplant Games 2023.
Participating at the World Transplant Games for the second time at WTG 2025, his aim was to inspire others to pledge their organs and live healthy, active lives post-transplant.

Naveen, once passionate about long-distance running, faced a harsh battle with Lupus Nephritis and kidney failure. After enduring dialysis and chemotherapy, his life took a hopeful turn in October 2021 when his mother donated a kidney, giving him a new lease on life.
Revived and determined, Naveen returned to running marathons and advocating for Lupus awareness, chronic kidney disease, and organ donation. Naveen represented India at the World Transplant Games 2025, embodying the strength and spirit of transplant survivors everywhere.

Nagaraj faced a long and difficult wait of nearly 10 months for a liver transplant due to no matching donor in his family. During this period, his health deteriorated, with low blood pressure and a swollen abdomen leading to multiple hospital visits. On October 12, 2017, he finally received a life-saving liver transplant, marking a new beginning for him. Now 59 years old, Nagaraj maintains a healthy and active lifestyle, participating in athletic events such as road racing, 10K walk, and 5K run.
Following his participation in the World Transplant Games in Newcastle (2019) and Perth (2023), he continued with great enthusiasm, competing again at the World Transplant Games 2025 in Germany, and inspiring others with his resilience and determination.

Vasu Sunkara, a forest officer from Andhra Pradesh and a former athlete, once won gold and silver in cycling events in England. But in 2015, while in Germany, he was diagnosed with severe liver disease — with just a 5% chance of survival without a transplant.
After several challenges, including financial hurdles and donor complications, his mother donated her liver in 2020, saving his life. Vasu dropped to just 42 kg during treatment but fought back with determination.
Though doctors advised against running, Vasu shifted to race-walking, winning gold in 1500m and silver in 400m at local events. At peak fitness, he represented India in race-walking at the World Transplant Games 2025 and winning a medal for his efforts.

Two Transplants, One Unbreakable Spirit. From Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Mithun was just 21 when he faced kidney failure in 2007. After a year of uncertainty, he received a kidney transplant in October 2008 from an unrelated donor. Life slowly stabilized—he became an engineer and now works at State Bank of India.
Years later, a severe bout of pneumonia led to kidney failure again. This time, his sister donated her kidney, giving him a second chance.
Now healthy, Mithun has taken up dart as a sport, competing at the national level. He represented India at the World Transplant Games 2025, using the platform to raise awareness and inspire others.

A passionate sportsman in his youth, Parag rediscovered his love for sports after learning about the World Transplant Games through social media. Prasoon Kandpal, 36, is an entrepreneur from Uttarakhand and founder of Passage to World, a travel company. In early 2023, his life changed when an autoimmune disorder led to kidney failure. After eight months of dialysis, he received a life-saving transplant on 23rd January 2024, with his wife Priyanka Joshi as his donor.
Less than two months later, Prasoon completed a 5km walkathon and returned to work — a testament to his resilience. Now, on a lifelong course of medication, he feels healthier, more aware, and deeply grateful.
Prasoon represented India in golf at the World Transplant Games 2025 (WTG25), seeing it as a celebration of second chances and the power of perseverance.

Born in 1960, P. V. Ramanaiah has always been a dedicated sportsman, having represented India at the Junior Asian Youth Football Championship in Nepal and Andhra Pradesh at the U-19 level. After undergoing a liver transplant in 2017, he remained committed to fitness, actively playing tennis and competing in local tournaments.
He proudly represented India at the World Transplant Games 2023 in Perth and once again competed at the World Transplant Games 2025 in Germany, in both football and tennis.

Rahul Prajapati was just 17 when he was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCMP), a condition that weakens the heart’s ability to pump blood. After a paralytic attack in 2017, doctors told his family that a heart transplant was the only option.
In 2018, Rahul received a life-saving transplant at AIIMS, New Delhi. Since then, he has rebuilt his strength and spirit through sports. In 2023, he fulfilled his dream of representing India at the World Transplant Games in Perth, Australia - proudly winning a bronze medal in Athletics (Discus, 18–29 age group). In 2025 he once again participated at the World Transplant Games in Dresden, Germany, winning another medal.

Post-transplant, he embraced an active lifestyle, participating in walking, yoga, cycling, and competitive sports.
Rajendra won a silver medal at the National Transplant Games in Mumbai and has been actively promoting organ donation, inspiring others to become donors. He proudly represented India at the World Transplant Games 2025 in Germany, where he competed in volleyball, football, and athletics.

Ramdev Singh, in his mid-30s from Shri Dungargarh, received a life-saving kidney transplant from his mother in 2012 after battling kidney failure. After a challenging year of recovery, he works as a technician at Jodhpur Vidhyut Vitaran Nigam Ltd.
An avid athlete, Ramdev has won gold and silver medals at the National Transplant Games in Mumbai, and a gold in Javelin, silver in Long Jump, bronze in 200m at the ROTTO-PGI Games, and is now preparing to represent India at the World Transplant Games 2025. He trains hard; confident he will surpass many athletes in the coming years.
Ramdev also advocates for greater government support and recognition for transplant athletes, hoping for more encouragement and financial aid in the future. Ramdev represented India in Football, Volleyball and four Track & Field events, winning 4 medals.

Ravindra Singh Shekhawat from Dhamora village, Rajasthan, has faced immense challenges since his kidney transplant in June 2022 at IKRDC, Ahmedabad - battling COVID-19, stent placement, and swine flu.
Despite this, he lost 48 kgs and reignited his fitness journey with unwavering determination. In December 2023, Ravindra won gold in shot put at the National Transplant Games in Mumbai, and a gold in 5000m racewalk at the ROTTO-PGI Games in 2025.
Ravindra competed at the World Transplant Games 2025 in Germany in shot put, volleyball and basketball.

Satywan Panghal, a former Indian Army soldier and accomplished athlete, was forced to retire in July 2021 due to kidney failure. A gold medalist in shot put at the U-14 All India Inter Boys Athletics Championship; Satyavan served proudly on the Army Sports Team.
In March 2021, he underwent a life-saving kidney transplant at RR Hospital, with his father as the donor. Leaving the Army was emotionally devastating, but with family support and deep resilience, he found strength to recover and rebuild his life.
Now, Satyvan follows a disciplined fitness routine and recently competed in the ROTTO-PGI Transplant Games, where he won gold in Shotput. Satywan got married in 2024, embracing life with renewed gratitude and purpose.

Sujith S, is a 32-year-old Physical Education teacher from Kollam, Kerala. At 26, I was diagnosed with Wilson’s disease and liver failure. In 2019, his incredible mother donated part of her liver, giving him a second chance at life.
Sports have always been his passion. He represented Kerala University in hockey and played cricket and football during his school days. After transplant, he found new inspiration and returned to sports, winning a silver medal in the 200m race at the All-India Transplant Games 2023!
Now, while working full-time as a high school PE teacher, he achieved biggest dream: to represent India on the world stage at the World Transplant Games 2025 in Dresden.!

After his transplant, Souvik never imagined he could return to a “normal” life - until he discovered the World Transplant Games and found hope in the stories of other transplant athletes. Inspired, he set out to become that same inspiration for others.
A lifelong fan of darts and 10-pin bowling, Souvik represented India at the World Transplant Games 2023 in Perth and made history by winning Gold in Tenpin Bowling (30–39), Gold in Darts Singles (30–39), and Silver in Darts Mixed (30–39) — India’s first medals in these sports. In 2025, he proudly represented India again at the World Transplant Games in Germany, continuing his mission to show that life after transplant is not just possible - it can be powerful.

Sumeer’s journey is a powerful story of grit and determination. After undergoing two kidney transplants, he didn’t just recover - he ran a 10km race within 100 days of his second transplant, earning a place in both the Asian Book of Records and Indian Book of Records as the only 2-time kidney transplant recipient to achieve this feat.
A former cricketer, Sumeer never let go of his dream to represent India. He competed in Badminton, Football, and Tennis at the World Transplant Games 2023 in Perth and oonce again in WTG 2025 in Germany. His story is a testament to the fact that even after multiple health setbacks, life can be lived with passion and purpose.

Sandeep Kaimal, 49, from Bangalore, is a chemical engineer and MBA working in banking. Passionate about tennis, football, bowling, and golf, he aims to compete in these sports at the World Transplant Games 2025. Diagnosed with IgA nephropathy in 2019, he underwent dialysis before receiving a kidney transplant from his sister in February 2022.
Though initially hesitant about transplant, Sandeep became active in organ donation awareness through the Rotary Club. His family’s medical history and support helped him embrace recovery with yoga and fitness. Introduced to the Transplant Games by his nephrologist, he represented India with pride and inspiring others.

Satbir Singh, 30, works at a Common Services Center and lives in Haryana with his wife, twins, parents, and brother. In 2018, his life changed when he was diagnosed with kidney failure and required an urgent transplant. While his mother wasn’t a match, his father - a farmer - turned out to be the perfect donor. The transplant was successful, and both recovered well.
Grateful for his second chance, Satbir reignited his passion for sports. Once an army aspirant, he now channels that drive into athletics. He actively competes in local games represented India in running events at the World Transplant Games 2025 in Germany.

Sriram, from Tamil Nadu, has been a passionate sportsperson since childhood, winning medals in table tennis, badminton, basketball, and athletics at state and district levels. In 2021, he was diagnosed with severe heart failure, with an ejection fraction of just 12%. A life-saving heart transplant in December 2021 gave him a second chance.
Just days after surgery, Sriram was walking and back to work within a week. He soon returned to sports, winning Gold in Table Tennis at the National Transplant Games in Cochin. He proudly represented India at the World Transplant Games 2025 in Germany, where he was also the Captain of the Table Tennis Team.

A liver transplant survivor and proud transplant athlete, Sudeep owes his second life to the incredible strength and selflessness of his wife, Kanika, who donated 65% of her liver to save him. Her quiet courage and unwavering support turned his darkest moment into a journey of hope and recovery.

Swati Kapre underwent a liver transplant in 2002 after being diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. Despite further health challenges, including chronic pancreatitis in 2010, she remained active - teaching mathematics and pursuing her passion for badminton.
In December 2024, she won gold in badminton (All Aged Women Category) at the 17th National Transplant Games in Mumbai, and a silver in Badminton at the ROTTO-PGI Games 2025. Now a senior citizen, Swati represented India in Badminton at the World Transplant Games 2025 in Germany, showing that determination has no age limit.

Taruna Upadhyaya, a 40-year-old from New York working in a humanitarian role at Accenture, donated her kidney to her father -an ex-army officer- on 22nd November 2022. Despite criticism and emotional challenges, she remained firm in her decision, inspired by a transplant recipient friend. After successfully convincing her father, she returned to the U.S. and resumed her active lifestyle, medication-free.
Taruna is also working to improve transplant processes in India, collaborating with government and medical teams. A passionate runner and swimmer, she represented India at the World Transplant Games 2025, driven to advocate for organ donation and inspire others through her journey.

Tauheed Ahmad, a cheerful and determined young man, began dialysis in his 20s after discovering his high creatinine levels. Despite the challenges, he remained focused on his health and underwent a successful kidney transplant in 2014.
His life took a motivating turn when he met transplant athlete and three-time badminton medalist Balveer Singh, who inspired him to pursue sports post-transplant. Training regularly with Balveer, Tauheed represented India at the World Transplant Games 2023 in Perth, winning Bronze in Badminton Doubles (30–39).
Tauheed was all set to compete again at the WTG 2025 in Germany. Sadly, he became unwell on arriving in Dresden, and was ruled of the Games. Now recovered, he hopes to once again make his mark in the 2027 World Transplant Games.

Umesh Dhavalikar’s transplant journey unfolded in just a week. On April 9, 2015, he experienced a persistent headache and fatigue. By the third day, he was diagnosed with Fulminant Hepatic Failure and was told he wouldn’t survive without a liver transplant. Miraculously, his sister turned out to be a match, and he underwent a successful transplant on 15th April 2015.
Grateful for this second chance, Umesh is committed to honoring his sister’s gift. Umesh represented India at the World Transplant Games 2025, celebrating life, resilience, and organ donation through sport. Umesh was also invaluable as the Captain of the Athletics Team, overseeing his team's stunning success.

Varun Anand, a spirited 13-year-old from Bangalore, was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease at just 9 years old. After enduring painful treatments and dialysis, his mother, Deepa, gave him a second chance at life by donating her kidney.
Post-transplant, Varun discovered his passion for racquet sports. He now trains regularly in Badminton, Tennis, and Table Tennis, staying fit and focused.
At the World Transplant Games 2023, Varun made India proud by winning Gold in all three sports (12–14 category). He is now preparing to represent India again at WTG 2025 in Germany, proving that strength and determination know no age.

Diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at age 11 in 1981, he spent nearly 39 years dependent on insulin. In January 2020, he underwent a Simultaneous Pancreas and Kidney Transplant (SPKT) at PGIMER, Chandigarh - curing both his diabetes and kidney failure.
Thanks to a 42-year-old deceased donor, he had his first meal without insulin in over 14,000 days. This life-changing gift gave him a second chance, and he now lives free of injections and dialysis.
He proudly represented India in golf at the World Transplant Games 2025, honoring his donor and spreading awareness about organ donation.

Vivek Chowdhary, a 26-year-old kidney recipient, underwent a life-saving transplant on June 21, 2021, with his mother as his donor. A dedicated judoka, Vivek discovered his kidney condition during a routine checkup when doctors found high blood pressure and elevated creatinine levels. The diagnosis came as a shock, leaving him confused and worried. Today, while continuing to take immunosuppressants and BP medication, he has fully embraced life - training children in judo and preparing for the World Transplant Games.
He connected with ORGAN India after his sister reached out, inspired by the opportunity shared by his doctor. Representing India, he competed in the 100m, 200m, shot put, relays, badminton, and volleyball, winning two medals.

Yogesh Patel, 35, is a kidney transplant recipient and cyber security lead at Walmart. Diagnosed in 2019, he underwent a successful transplant on 1st May 2022 with a kidney from a deceased donor. A lifelong athlete, Yogesh has completed marathons, trekked to Everest Base Camp, and remained committed to fitness - even building a home gym during recovery.
He now manages his health with immunosuppressants and continues to live an active life. At WTG 2025, he represented India in darts and cycling, proving that life after transplant can be powerful and inspiring.
